Retrofitting Snubber Assembly Package

At Trade Tech, Inc., our Project Management Services are highly sought-after by manufacturing customers from across the country and around the world. In the project illustrated here, we were contacted by a customer in the mining industry to custom fabricate snubber kits. Our client required a retrofitted shovel door shock limiter (snubber) with an improved design and capacity. We accomplished this by a series of steps that included material procurement, creating prototype parts, machining, fabrication and delivery.

In order to complete this complex project within the customer’s timeframe, we needed to outsource materials from across the United States: from Washington to Pennsylvania. After acquiring these materials, we took care to coordinate the manufacturing of all components simultaneously to ensure on time delivery. Using our advanced equipment, which includes a Haas EC1600, Milltronics VM30XP, and Milltronics ML35 CNC Lathe, we completed the initial research and development prototype parts for field testing. Construction included a wide array of our machining capabilities, including CNC turning, boring, and milling, as well as specialty welding. After prototype testing was completed, and our project received final approval, we began our full production run.

The finished snubber kit consisted of 13 unique components constructed with 4340, Austenitic Manganese, A514, 1018, and cast steel. We achieved impressive finishes and accuracy, which included 63 Ra or better for turned bushings, 125 Ra or better for machined surfaces, and tightest tolerances of ±0.001″. Each assembly was meticulously inspected for quality and accuracy, including 100% quality inspection and component checklist verification. In addition, some of these assemblies were shipped to international clients and needed to be checked for compliant packaging for overseas travel. This packaging also needed to ensure that all assemblies arrived at international mining sights undamaged.

Our client was pleased with our results. A total of 16 of these kits were constructed, and the project was completed in its entirety and delivered to our client in Mesa, Arizona and to customers across the globe, all within a turnaround time of just 10 to 12 weeks.
